Randy, your dad ran at least three 'five second' runs at GVR in 76,but as has been mentioned, the times may not have been legit. But he did run a legit 6.19-233.16 at Fremont in March of 76,darn good numbers at the time. This was in the blue Monza. If you're looking for more numbers for your dad in his various cars, let me know.I've noted the best numbers I could find going back as far as 1965.                    Dennis Doubleday

Greetings everyone. This is obviously my first post on this board, as I signed up only today, specifically to relate to Randy this story concerning his dad. I don't remember the year exactly, but I think it was 1975 or so, and I was fresh out of high school and a bona fide drag racing nut. Anyway, I was at York US30 for what I remember to be the Super Stock Nationals, and saw Jungle have a pretty nasty fire. I also knew at the time that he was booked into an appearance the next day (Sunday) at Beaver Springs Dragway, a relatively new, and very fan friendly, dragstrip. I went to The Beaver that Sunday to see Jungle expecting a no-show, but instead got the show of a lifetime. Here's what happened.......After arriving about 2 hours late, JJ and Pam proceed to unload the car from the hauler, a Ford box van of some type, and I watched in awe as the two of them started to clean up the mess from the night before. I remember thinking,  "this ain't gonna happen, there's just too much damage. Hell, even the headers are burned through"!  I couldn't have been more wrong. Slowly, everything started coming together, he and Pam were both covered with grease,  and when I thought I had seen it all,  Jungle started digging through a trash can, and pulled out a Pepsi can. After cutting off both ends, and splitting it down it's length, it got wrapped around the bad header tube, and held in place with 2 worm clamps. I'll never forget the number he ran...6.86  Pretty impressive at the time. I'm 55 years old now, and still go to Beaver Springs every weekend in the summer, and think of JJ and the Pepsi can every time I'm there. Thanks for listening.   Jim Sheaffer
