Inaugural Boninfante Spring Super Nitro Funny Car Shootout Coming to Atco Raceway June 5, 2010

ATCO, N.J. (January 12, 2010) – Joe Sway of Atco (N.J.) Raceway and “Nitro Nick” Boninfante of Boninfante Performance Racing Clutches announced today that they will team up to present the Inaugural Spring Super Nitro Funny Car Shootout at Atco on Saturday June  5, 2010.

The event will feature the very popular nitro nostalgia Funny Cars from the 1970s that actually looked like the cars they were replicas of and  the best in the business will be coming in from all over the country to do battle on the legendary Atco quarter-mile.  Competing along with eight nitro Funny Cars will be over two dozen alcohol Funny Cars – both blown & injected – and all the entries will be lined up on the track and fire up their engines at the same time to kick off eliminations.

“Atco Raceway is celebrating it’s  50th anniversary in 2010 and what better way to celebrate 50 years of drag racing than to host a brand new event for the most popular class in all of drag racing, Nitro Funny Cars,” said Sway.  “During the 70s and 80s Atco’s Funny Car shows packed the place and we’re expecting the rabid Atco fans to show out in full force for the  Showdown.”

Boninfante, who owns two nostalgia nitro Funny Cars, the U.S. Male Mustang and a new car nearing completion, is the driving force behind this event.

“I’m very excited about this race,” Boninfante said.  “I used to promote races and run a Funny Car circuit back in the 70s & 80s and I’m really looking forward to putting together a big Funny Car race at my home-town track.  I raced at Atco the first year the track opened in 1960 and to be able to race there again 50 years later with my Funny Cars will be very cool.”

Besides the on-track action there will be a giant car show in the pits featuring vintage restored Funny Cars along with memorabilia vendors and racing celebrities.

More information about the race including format, purse and sponsors will be forthcoming soon.  For updates visit: www.boninfanteracing.com
