"Little Mr. Plymouth"
« on: April 07, 2009, 04:24:07 am »
Hello members, my name is Wayne Holland and this is my first post. I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee and bracket raced for 25 years at our local track in N.Georgia. Robert Nance, from nearby Ringgold, Georgia was the most notable drag racer in this area in the sixties. He had a string of Mopar race cars named Mr. Plymouth. Here are some photos of his first funny car, which he named "Little Mr. Plymouth". The first three photos were taken at "Paradise Drag Strip", Calhoun, Georgia in 1966. The third photo shows Robert Nance running against "Wild Man" Joe Hood. Joe was killed two years later in this car at Warner Robbins, Georgia. The fourth photo was taken in the motel parking lot at Daytona, Florida in 1968. This was Robert Nance's second and final funny car. He crashed this car while testing on a new strip of highway being built near his home town and was in a comma for a couple of weeks. That ended his funny car venture and he raced super stock class for the rest of his racing career into the early eighties.

Wayne.

Wanna hear an amazing coincidence?...I picked up a pair of Heads today From Gary Freeman down in Alabama, and one of the heads has the name Robert Nance stamped all over it...like ALL over it.  Every smooth surface you can stamp on.
I had never heard the name before three hours ago!
