Model Decal Don Prudhomme The Snake Dragster
« Reply #15 on: March 03, 2010, 10:47:50 pm »
I just can't believe it!  :o

The decals sheet for Don Prudhomme RE dragster from Monogram went for $56.61 on ebay (Item number: 260559096441).

Drag racing is indeed an expensive sport!  ;)

That and people are out of their minds.
Whoever bought them will probably scan and print them up and resell them.IF they are done correctly he can recoup his $$ in just a few sales.
WARNING: DO NOT buy the Snake Care Free decals that are listed at about $9.00. They SUCK!! I bought a bunch of different decals including Jungle's Camaro and 1/16 Gene Snow from this person and all are the same.No white under the decals so when they slide off the paper they are transparent.

Thank you very much for the tip as I was considering purchasing the Snake Care Free and Black Magic decals fro that source.  :)

Thats the trouble with aftermarket stuff by privateers.  You have to trust their standards and quality control and some have very little.  Slixx it seems is coming out with plenty of McEwen decals but am I right in suggesting that Snake wants too much in lecensing fees which is why there is none of his stuff availible?
I'm working on my original McEwen Monogram rail and I've just this minute sprayed lots of primer on the drivers seat.  Why?  Cos I've widened it and applied much filler to the styrene card wedge 'plug' to make it more snug in the cockpit.  I had to break off the roll cage and re-attach it which is now done.  I need to get a proper hobby like fishing or something!
keep it period!

I bought the cheap variation on Ebay, scanned them and reprinted them onto white decal film for use on a future build. I did a second copy and tried part of it on a sample body and it works just fine. Better than spending over $50 just for the original decals or over $100 for the kit.
Use the Revell, Garlits 74 car kit to do Snakes car. It's a better represented kit.

What would you charge for two more duplicate sets?

Good for you! Do you have both Prudhomme and McEwen carefree RE kits?

I am also surprised that we haven't heard any good comments from the "brain surgeon" (NOR'EASTER).

I have all of the 1970-1975 era Snake & Mongoose funnycar and dragster kits MIB unbuilt except the 1973 re-release of the 1971 Mongoose FE dragster, for which I only have the box.  I'm trying to find all factory sealed examples.  Here's what I have factory sealed:

1970 Snake Cuda
1970 Mongoose Duster
1971 Snake FE Dragster
1971 Mongoose FE Dragster
1973 Snake Carefree Dragster
1973 Mongoose Carefree Dragster
1973 Re-release of 1970 Snake Cuda
1973 Re-release of 1971 Snake FE dragster
1975 Mongoose Navy Duster (1/24 Scale Version)
1975 Snake Army Dragster (1/24 Scale Version)
1975 Mongoose Navy Dragster (1/24 Scale Version)
1975 Mongoose Navy Dragster (1/16 Scale Version)

The ones left to upgrade to factory sealed are the 1973 re-release of the Monogram 1970 Mongoose Duster, the 1973 re-release of the 1971 Monogram Mongoose FE dragster, and the 1/16 Revell Snake Army Dragster.  13 down, 3 to go......
