Lutz & Lundberg pictures or info ?
« on: January 14, 2010, 08:43:51 pm »
Does anybody here have any pictures/info/stories about the Lutz & Lundberg Olds 442 S/XS-funny car?
All I can find is a couple of pictures on the web, and I know there is somebody restoring the car, don't know who it is though.

Or if you know of any other Olds Funny cars, I know there were a few Starfire/Monza cars out there, any
info on those would also be appreciated. But my main interest is the Lutz & Lundberg car.

Thanks!

There were actually a couple of them. The 66 car was destroyed in a towing accident,I think. The other is from 67.  Dennis Doubleday

Dennis, Thanks for the pictures! :) I had never seen those before.

The story I had heard was the '66 was wrecked like you said, and then they rebuilt it as a '67.
Either way I like the Black one better. (Could be that I had a '67 ;D)

I also heard the thing was a handful, and that it would run somewhere in the 160-180's, could that have been possible?

Don't know if you've seen them but Richard Wood has a couple of good engine shots of L&L at:

I have over 40 pictures of Lutz and Lundberg going back even as far as their 41 Willys, the one before the Yellow Anglia.  Pictures from Cedar Falls back in 1965 when they had their bad crash.  Jim Lutz was a true gentlemen and was always ready to help someone in need.  He was there for us after our cash at Cordova in 2002.  Dennis Mothershed also has many pictures of the L & L cars.  They were the pioneers of Funnycar Racing  here in the Midwest. As I remember the Olds Funny was totaled in a highway crash somewhere in Nebraska going to a match race in Denver.  Jim once told me that Ford offered him a deal, but he turned it down to run the Olds Funny.  The last few years of his life he drove for Steve Elliot in a blown Altered.  Jim passed on from cancer in March of 2006.
